In 1608 French Explorer Samuel De Champlain founded Quebec City. This was one of the many new Colonies located along the Saint Lawrence River. Other famous cities on the Saint Lawrence River includes Montreal and Kingston. The land was originally inhabited by Iroquois Natives. Quebec’s location along the Saint Lawrence made it a pivot place for trade. Champlain quickly built trading posts which are still around today. Many natives were involved in the trade. The natives would typically trade furs in exchange for European goods.
