Conclusion

New France’s had no more than 62,000 European inhabitants in 1775. This was far fewer British North America at this time. Only 31.6 percent of migrants to New France became full time residents. Despite the small population,  Quebec City still played a massive role in the world.

It was a hub for trade, with both natives and other French colonies. The strong ties of New France to the Catholic religion caused the British to pass the Quebec act, and subsequently the Thirteen Colonies to rebel.  Quebec City also handed the colonies their first defeat during the revolutionary war. To conclude, Quebec City’s global influence was far greater than its low population would suggest.
